How to Get (and Stay) Organized This Fall: 5 Simple Strategies

As the leaves start to change and the air turns crisp, fall presents the perfect opportunity to hit the reset button. Whether you're heading back to school, gearing up for a busy work season, or simply craving a more structured routine, getting organized this fall can help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

Here are five simple but powerful strategies to help you get—and stay—organized this season:

1. Do a Fall Reset

Before diving into new routines, take time to reflect and reset. Declutter your physical space, closets, desks, pantry, even your car. Donate any unused clothes or household items, clean out your inbox and unsubscribe from old mailing lists. Having a refreshed space will allow you to move forward through the rest of the year feeling organized and on top of your game.

2. Switch to a Seasonal Schedule

With fall coming in there is usually a shift of daily routines, school is back in session, deadlines start to pile up and there just never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything done. Do not fret, embrace the change and set aside time to create a new schedule that works for you.

Using a planner, digital or paper, can be a great way to keep track of all of your tasks and to-do lists. Being able to see your weeks planned out can help with time management, staying on top of deadlines and keeping your stress levels down.

3. Simplify Your To-Do List

With so many different activities going on during the fall months it can be easy to accidentally over book yourself. Simplifying does not have to mean limiting your list, but rather; finding ways to do your tasks more efficiently. While this is easier said than done, the goal should always be progress, not perfection.

4. Create Drop Zones at Home

Organization at both work and home is crucial for staying in control of your time and energy. Avoid the chaos by setting up “drop zones” in your spaces. This can be as simple as:

● Hooks for jackets and bookbags

● Baskets for keys, phones, wallets and other “never leave the house without” items

● Folders for current and old projects

Having a designated space for daily essentials keeps clutter at bay and makes mornings much smoother.

5. Embrace Digital Tools

Take advantage of apps and tools that help you stay organized without added stress. Some fan favorites include:

Notion or Evernote – for organizing notes and project plans

Google Calendar – for time blocking and scheduling

Todoist or Asana – for task management

AnyList – for groceries and meal planning

Pick the tools that work for your style, no need to overcomplicate it.
